Getting to Know Darren Alexander: NEW OSC Manager of Training and Development (OKC)

OSC is excited to announce that Darren Alexander has joined our team as the Manager of Training and Development in the OKC office.  With Betsey Kulakowski assuming the OSC Executive Director position in July, the search was on to find a safety professional with many years of safety training under his/her belt and who could also bring new areas of safety training to the OSC course offerings.

Dan has 25 years of safety training and spent the last 11 years training US Postal employees at the National Center for Employee Development (NCED) in Norman, Okla.  He is also the current Fire Chief for Cedar Country Fire Department in eastern Cleveland County.

“Safety is a culture.  You can’t go buy 5 gallons of safety and take it to work. Everyone from the owner of the business to the employee needs to make it a priority. Without management involvement, it’s just talk.  If you can’t do it safely, don’t do it,” he believes.

Darren isn’t afraid to have some fun either – in the 1990s, he was a radio disc jockey for a radio station in Kansas.  He played Van Halen’s version of “Happy Trails” on air and was shortly thereafter asked to hit the trail.  That’s when he began focusing on his fire safety career and the rest is history.

Darren is married with two children and two grandchildren.  He divides his free time between going to Grand Lake, working in his new wood shop and enjoying OU football.

Feel free to contact Darren with any safety or training question – he’s a great member resource!  darrena@oksafety.org
